Swadeshi Journeys – highly Recommended
First the short version – I can highly commend this Indian travel agency for an excellently organised trip, tailored to our requirements, which provided us with a diverse and fascinating experience. Their local knowledge and personal approach came into its own when my wife broke her wrist: they quickly found us appropriate medical assistance and then got our holiday back on track with some swiftly re-organised travel arrangements.
Our long-held desire to visit India finally came to fruition in March this year. We were keen to use a local agency, partly for their local knowledge and partly to ensure that the bulk of our outlay went to locally owned companies. Based on other good reviews we approached Swadeshi Journeys who were very flexible in developing an itinerary that incorporated a mix of sightseeing, wildlife safari and some places we specifically wanted to visit. Their quoted price was very reasonable and covered pretty much everything apart from meals, tips and entrance fees. We went for largely 3-star hotels but, at no extra cost, they managed to get a few of these upgraded – a nice treat in Jaipur and Agra. However, all the hotels were good – largely nicely individual, friendly and quiet.
With old age impending, we opted for a car and driver for most of the trip and we count ourselves very fortunate to have had th
e marvellous Arun as our driver: friendly, always helpful and
with a good sense of humour (spotting the auspicious white rat at Karni Mata Temple is a treasured moment!).
He was also instrumental in getting help after my wife’s accident – a good egg as they say.
Of course, there are always things one would do differently with hindsight, but it is a tribute to Mr Singh and Girish that there is nothing major I would change – perhaps Pushkar was over touristy for me and we could have managed another safari at Jim Corbett, but these are pretty minor and really show that I didn’t do enough research beforehand.
